Supplier Collaboration for Sustainable Procurement

1–2 minutes

Collaborating with suppliers is vital for achieving sustainable procurement goals. By working closely with suppliers, businesses can ensure that sustainability practices are embedded throughout the supply chain.

Environmental collaboration might involve joint efforts to reduce carbon footprints. Social collaboration could focus on improving labor conditions and community impacts. Governance collaboration ensures adherence to ethical practices and compliance with regulations.

Consider the case of Procter & Gamble (P&G). The problem they faced was the environmental impact of their palm oil sourcing. Their task was to enhance sustainability in their palm oil supply chain. Partnering with the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and their suppliers, P&G set stringent sustainability standards. The result? Significant reductions in deforestation and improved labor practices in their supply chain.

Another example is Nike. The problem they faced was ensuring ethical labor practices in their supply chain. Their task was to improve working conditions and transparency. Collaborating with the Fair Labor Association and their suppliers, Nike implemented robust auditing and training programs. The result? Enhanced labor conditions and increased supplier accountability.

These examples show that strong supplier collaboration can drive significant improvements in sustainability.
